Edinburgh Science Festival Robots Preview for P6!

Grateful thanks to Brian Davison, Lecturer and Teaching Fellow at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Computing, and his students for fantastic robot workshops on Thursday 24th March for each of our three P6 classes.

Excellent feedback from pupils and staff ahead of the team's Edinburgh International Science Festival free workshops next week at the National Museum, and wonderful to link up with the University. Remember to say hello to the team if you get a chance to visit, P6.

Pop-Up Science: Robots

Monday 28 — Tuesday 29 March

Join us in this hands-on activity making LEGO® robots perform simple tasks using the Scratch programming environment. The drag-and-drop interface is easy to pick up with no experience – even parents can do it! You can also have a play with pre-prepared robot-based activities – robot sumo, anyone?

P6 Euroquiz Edinburgh Runners Up!

An outstanding result for Emil, Elissa, Sergi and Sam at the Edinburgh Euroquiz event held at City Chambers on Wednesday 2nd March. After some very challenging rounds of questions, the top two teams progressed to a head-to-head final round and our P6 team secured a highly commendable Second Place, only one point behind the winning team in a very exciting finish. Huge congratulations to Gylemuir Primary School who took the Edinburgh title this year and will progress to the Final. Thank you very much to families for supporting, to Mrs Nowell for accompanying and to Monika Wantoch, City of Edinburgh Council, for organising the event. Monika submitted a report on the event to City of Edinburgh's Bright Futures website. Well done, P6! Euro stars!

P6A Stop Motion Animation

The children in Primary 6A have been working in groups to retell the story of Tam o' Shanter. They began by drawing the characters and backgrounds that they would need then they used the iPads to create stop-motion films. A few groups went on to record sound on top of their videos. Everyone worked really hard and they should be very proud of their results.

Ellen's Badminton Success

Congratulations to P6 pupil Ellen who only started playing badminton last year, and has already made great friends from other schools and been invited to a number of clubs (Tall Oaks at Forrester High School and the Lothian Development Squad).  She has really, really enjoyed herself and seems to have found a real passion for the game.


In December, Ellen played in the Lothian U12 badminton tournament in Penicuik and finished runner-up in the Girls' Doubles and Third in the Mixed Doubles.  She also had a number of brilliant matches in the Singles, narrowly losing a couple (22-20, 24-22), and as a result she has been invited to join the Edinburgh Primary Schools Elite Squad! Very well done, Ellen!

Rachel Wins Steven Lui Cup for Burns Recital

Congratulations to Rachel who won this year's P6 competition for Burns Recital and now has her name engraved on the Steven Lui Memorial Cup. Very well done to Finalists Ben and Cai who also gave outstanding performances at Assembly and to all the P6 pupils who took part.

Swimming Medal for Quinn!

Well done, Quinn, for winning this superb swimming medal in his first competition at Warrender!

P5 Scottish Opera 2015

What a fabulous performance from Primary Five on Wednesday 6th May! They were word perfect and in fine voice for a truly outstanding production of 'Warriors! The Emperor's Incredible Army' with Scottish Opera. The team from Scottish Opera yet again wove their magic, as only they can, with high production values, focus and lots of fun to choreograph the entire show in a single day.

We are also grateful to musical director Roger who spent a day with the pupils in an advance vocal workshop and to SCILT (Scotland's National Centre for Languages) for providing excellent Mandarin and Chinese culture workshops. The children thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and provided a knock out performance, inspired by the fantastic turnout of families. Thank you to Mrs McVicker, Ms Owen, Mrs Maguire and Mrs Cave for preparing the pupils so well and thank you to all the families who came along to shout "Bravo!" and "Encore!"
